Enamel
Is the hardest substance in your body
Dentine
Protects the pulp. It has many miles of tiny little channels that lead from the dentine to the pulp filled with a fluid similar to the fluid in the spine and brain. Although microscopic, these tubules still allow bacteria to enter and remain hidden there for a long time.
Pulp
Contains nerves, blood and lymph vessels.
Roots
The roots lie in the jaw bone, the tooth socket.. The surface of the root is the cementum.
Cementum
The cementum is a very thin layer that covers the dentine of the roots and has no blood supply. On the enamel the periodontal ligaments are attached.
Periodontal Ligament
The periodontal ligaments are attached to the cementum and hold the tooth in the jaw bone. The tooth is not totally fixed in the bone but elastically joined. It has nerve and blood supply.
